Day 5 at Hippocrates

Thursday.

My favorite day so far because there was a kitchen techniques class today. Chef Ken Blue make it all look so simple and yet he creates recipe masterpieces, that's all I can say. I haven't anything yet that I didn't like.

Some of my friends here are having a tough time with the food, missing cooked food, missing noodles, but I'm happily enjoying everything!

I'm finding too that my appetite has been decreasing. When eating regular cooked foods, I would often go back for seconds and thirds, but here I'm quite satisfied with a single serving.

Today, my ankle definitely seems better - it was practically immobile when I first got here and now I'm able to rotate it no problem and I'm walking much better again. I'm also noticing that my nails are hard again and not brittle.

New Name: The Elusive Introvert

"I want to live simply. I want to sit by the window when it rains and read books I'll never be tested on. I want to paint because I want to, not because I've got something to prove. I want to listen to my body; fall asleep when the moon is high and wake up slowly; with no place to rush off to. I want not to be governed by money or clocks or any of the artificial restraints that humanity imposes on itself. I just want to be, boundless and infinite."  Unknown** Hello! They say "start where you are" so here goes... Nearly seven years since I posted here. Time flies. And a lot  has happened since then. Mostly good, but also some lessons learned along the way.  This blog was formerly called "Alice's Wonderful Life" (sort of a play on words with the Alice in Wonderland thing - so original, sigh). It had bright background colors and chipper-sounding content for the most part. But that's not me. And things are not always wonderful. A...

My Big (to me) Adventure

Live, Love, Laugh... It seems like I haven't been doing much of those lately. Oh yes, I'm Living. Yes, I'm Loved (and love) and yes, I do Laugh.  But not like I used to. I can't exactly pinpoint why. I blame a good deal of it on work and a great deal of it on the state of the world today. Unkindness to each other and abuse to animals, war, politics, destroying the planet little by little - it's all getting to me big time. I do my small part, but I still feel hopeless and sad, like I want to do more. I have a pretty good job, but I just feel so unfulfilled. For those that don't know, my dirty little secret is that I work at a big pharma company which is kind of a joke when I don't even believe in using allopathic or western medicine except in a dire emergency. When I meet people at various natural food / green / organic / good-for-the-earth type gatherings, I'm always met with a questioning head-tilt and raised-eyebrow (just one, sometimes both) when a...

Brenda's Lasagna (recipe), Overused Words and One of the Best Moms I Know

I haven't posted here as much as I thought I would. Not sure why - I guess it has to do mostly with work - I have so many thoughts going through my mind that I think would make interesting topics and then I don't set aside the time to post.  I need to manage that a little better! Take my friend, Brenda - I wonder if her ears were ringing today.  I was thinking about her.  A lot.  I mean, she's got a hubby and six kids (four are her own and two step daughters) and if she can find the time to take care of her family and herself and work full time, then I can certainly find the time to post some of my thoughts and recipes more often!  I don't have any kids; I just have a boyfriend and a cat. One of the things I've been thinking about lately is how certain words are overused.  Lately the words I hear all the time are AMAZING and ROCKS.  I was watching Property Brothers a few weeks ago and this lady kept saying "Oh...
